Mostly private

This is partly a private journal, but mostly I just post and comment in LJ communities.

Buying a used car

Which American car that can be found for under $10,000 used and gets at least 30 mpg combined would you recommend? And which, if any, would you avoid?

We're looking mostly at the Ford Focus and the Chevy Aveo, but leaning towards a Focus.

I actually received a response from customer services

So, the other day, I went to the Starbucks inside Borders in Oxford. It was 30 minutes before closing, but they had already cleaned up and told me they were closed - and rude about it to boot. I asked where the store hours were listed, since I was confused, and they just pointed to the door, where it said the closing time that day was 30 minutes from then still. They didn't give any explanation. 10 minutes later, Borders even announced that Starbucks would be closing in 20 minutes! Ha.

So, I decided to e-mail Starbucks UK, and they actually responded in two days, and I got three free beverage coupons in the mail yesterday. I was really shocked actually. I've been living in Oxford for almost two years (moved here from Ann Arbor, Michigan in the states), and that's the first time that complaining has gotten me anywhere here. So this is mostly to say, if you have a bad experience at Starbucks, it's worth complaining.

Book 7: Dreamcatcher by Stephen King

I am unashamedly, completely, totally in love with the majority of Stephen King's work. I think he has an incredible imagination and a wonderful writing style, and he is a master storyteller. I've read about 95% of his published work now.

I quite enjoyed Dreamcatcher. I had heard some pretty negative stuff about it though, so maybe if I had gone in with high expectations I wouldn't have enjoyed it in the same way. It was an interesting story, and I liked the characters, especially Henry and Duddits. I could tell in some places King was just "going for the gross out" as he puts it, and I've got to admit that the parts with the dog bothered me. I liked the ending, which actually feels like a pretty rare occurrence lately.

So, while I wouldn't put it on my top ten favorite King book list, I did like it and would say it's worthwhile for any King fan.
